Founded in December 1963 as the Department of Interior Decoration of Buildings, it was later renamed the Department of Interior and Equipment (1965) and then the Department of Interior Design (2014). It is one of the leading departments of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.

The academic and creative school of the Department of Environmental Design focuses on several priority areas: researching current issues in contemporary environmental design; training postgraduate (PhD) students for higher education institutions in Ukraine, China, countries of the Middle East, and beyond; organising solo exhibitions for the department’s teaching staff; and supporting student participation in international design competitions and Olympiads.

Chair

The Department of Architecture was established within the Faculty of Environmental Design at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, officially starting its activities on September 1, 2020. However, architectural education at the Academy has a long-standing tradition. The comprehensive training of future specialists includes a strong artistic component, which distinguishes it from the “Architecture and Urban Planning” programmes at other educational institutions and enables students to obtain the qualification of architect-artist.

During their studies, students master academic drawing and painting, the basics of colour theory, sculpture, and the fundamentals of architectural composition and graphics. Disciplines such as semiotics in architecture, land art in landscape design, light and colour design, and urban ecology enable students to navigate contemporary challenges in the organisation of the architectural and landscape environment and to develop competitive design solutions.

Chair

Founded in 2000, the Department of Textile and Fashion Design has developed a distinctive teaching methodology, widely recognised as the Kharkiv School of Textile and Fashion Design. This is reflected in numerous victories of its students and graduates at prestigious international professional design competitions both in Ukraine and abroad. The vast majority of the department’s graduates achieve great success in their professional careers.

The department maintains a highly creative environment, with lecturers and students regularly participating in fashion industry events. It also has its own Textile and Fashion Laboratory, fully equipped with professional industrial sewing machinery.
