The departments of the faculty provide Bachelor’s level training in photography and visual practices, media art and video art, production of audiovisual projects, and animation. The faculty also prepares Master’s level specialists in audiovisual arts, production, and media technologies.

Our graduates can pursue careers as:

  • audiovisual production specialists;
  • specialists in artistic and documentary photography;
  • specialists in film, TV advertising, and music video production;
  • advertising project specialists (project managers, art directors);
  • specialists in video art, video production, and media art;
  • visual designers and coordinators of events and live shows;
  • producers (executive producers, co-producers), art curators, and film directors;
  • managers in cultural and artistic sectors related to audiovisual arts and production.

The acquired competencies enable graduates of the Master’s programmes to work in art management and teaching, as well as contribute to the development of scientific and practical research in Audiovisual Arts and Media Production within the field of Culture, Arts, and Humanities.

International cooperation is one of the faculty’s key priorities. Through partnerships with leading European higher art education institutions, students have opportunities to undertake internships and participate in academic mobility programmes across Europe, including joint international art projects. Our goal is to ensure successful integration of our graduates into international creative teams, audiovisual studios, and production companies. For this reason, international professors have been invited to contribute to the educational process, including Jan Van Woensel (Belgium), Kurt Vanbelleghem (Belgium), Jurij Dobriakov (Lithuania), Annelys de Vet (Netherlands), and others.

Furthermore, since 2024, the faculty has initiated and organised an annual International Conference dedicated to modern trends and development prospects in audiovisual art and media technologies. In 2026, the event brought together audiovisual arts and media production professionals from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Belgium, Italy, Georgia, Turkey, Portugal, Japan, and the USA.

The Department of Audiovisual Arts was established in 2019, marking an important step toward the modernisation of contemporary art education. The department’s professional academic staff combines the rich artistic traditions of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts with innovative approaches and cutting-edge audiovisual media technologies.

Students of the department learn to create a wide range of short-form audiovisual works, including commercials, music videos, and video art, as well as diverse contemporary media projects. The department’s graduates are highly sought after both within Ukraine and internationally.

The Department of Photography and Visual Practices was established in 2016 on the basis of the Hudpromloft art space. Contemporary art opens up opportunities for development across such media as photography, video, and media art. Mastering diverse visual art practices enables students to transform their own concepts into creative projects presented within the contemporary art environment.

The educational process encourages active communication and collaboration with artists and students from Ukraine and international higher education institutions, promoting further creative growth and new initiatives.

Chair

The Department of Cross-Cultural Practice Methodologies provides general professional training for students. It operates within the Academy’s interdisciplinary environment, which brings together cross-cultural and humanities-based projects. The department’s academic staff focuses its research activities on the methodological aspects of cross-cultural practices.

The core disciplines offered by the department are designed to build meaningful relationships between the artist and society, supporting artists, designers, and filmmakers in the search for their own creative identity.
