On May 22, 2026, an online event titled “Vyshyvanka: From Ancient Craft to a Global Brand” was held as part of the activities of the Junior Academy of Design and Arts at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. The event brought together over 40 participants interested in art, design, fashion, and Ukrainian cultural heritage.

The speaker of the event was Nataliia CHEN, PhD in Pedagogic Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Multimedia Design. During the session, participants learned about the distinctive features of vyshyvankas from different regions of Ukraine, the symbolism of their ornamental patterns, and their connection to local cultural identity. Particular attention was paid to how Ukrainian embroidery serves as a source of inspiration for contemporary fashion, graphic, and multimedia design, as well as an important element of Ukraine’s international cultural branding. The interactive format of the event encouraged open dialogue and active engagement from participants.

Today, the vyshyvanka is not only traditional clothing but also a powerful symbol of national identity recognised worldwide. The event provided an excellent opportunity to explore how cultural heritage is organically integrated into modern creative industries.

The event also welcomed a special guest, Serhii NEHODOV, Head of the Labour Department for the South-Eastern Region of the Inspection Activity Directorate in the Kharkiv Oblast. He conducted a seminar dedicated to the World Day Against Child Labour and spoke about the rights of minors in employment. The topic was especially relevant ahead of the summer holidays, a period when many young people consider temporary or seasonal jobs.
