Dear Colleagues!<\/p>\n

In 2027, a special issue of the\u00a0“HUDPROM: The Ukrainian Art and Design Journal”\u00a0will be published. This issue is dedicated to graphic design to mark the 65th anniversary of the School of Graphic Design at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.<\/p>\n

Graphic design is a visual language of the present, encompassing a broad range of practices, from visual identity, advertising, editorial and packaging design to digital interfaces, social communication and data visualisation. Graphic design defines the look of urban navigation, the image of brands, institutions, cultural and civic initiatives, and plays a crucial role in shaping the information space and perceiving reality. In the context of the rapid development of digital technologies, globalisation, and the constant growth of information volumes, it is the visual form that determines the effectiveness of communication.<\/p>\n

Graphic design acquires particular significance in times of crisis, becoming a tool of public communication, cultural self-identification, and informational resistance. Visual images enable the rapid dissemination of socially important information, draw attention to humanitarian issues, support morale and contribute to the formation of shared symbols and narratives. Ukrainian wartime graphic design demonstrates the ability to combine communicative effectiveness with emotional expressiveness, capturing the contemporary experience and representing Ukrainian culture in the global information space. In this context, design emerges not only as a means of visual communication but also as a tool for cultural memory, societal cohesion, and the formation of national visual identity.<\/p>\n

In 2027, the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts will celebrate the 65th anniversary of its School of Graphic Design. Founded in 1962, the Kharkiv School of Graphic Design is now one of Ukraine’s leading centres of design education, actively shaping the country’s visual culture. Students of the Department of Graphic Design at KSADA consistently demonstrate a high level of professional competence, becoming laureates and winners of prestigious national and international competitions and festivals. Throughout its history, the Department has trained approximately 2 000 graduates, including Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degree holders, who have successfully developed their creative careers in Ukraine and abroad.<\/p>\n

The aim of this special issue\u00a0is to conceptually reflect upon the role of graphic design in contemporary society, analyse the challenges of visual communication in Ukraine and abroad, identify current trends, and outline directions for the further development of design education and the design industry.<\/p>\n

We welcome submissions addressing the following topics:<\/p>\n
