<\/p>\nIn 1893, the school library contained approximately 400 volumes. In 1912, the Kharkiv Art College was established and part of the literature from M. Raevska-Ivanova\u2019s school was transferred to its library. In 1919, the college was reorganised into the Free State Art Workshops.<\/p>\n
From 1947, the library was headed by Tetiana Volkova. She introduced systematic inventory records and began compiling library catalogues. As of January 1, 1953, the library’s collection consisted of 22 868 items. In 1963, the Kharkiv State Art Institute was reorganised into the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute and reoriented towards training artists specialising in industrial and decorative arts.<\/p>\n
From the 1980s until 2021, the library was headed by Nina Sobolieva. Under her leadership, the library underwent significant positive transformations. In 1991, following the commissioning of the new institute building, the library moved into a specially designed premises with a total area of 651 square meters. From then on, students began actively decorating the library interior. They created wall paintings, stained-glass windows, sculptures and artworks for the halls and reading rooms, and restored the library\u2019s early 20th-century furniture.<\/p>\n
Today, the library\u2019s collection exceeds 146 000 items and remains one of the oldest and most valuable specialised collections in the field. The rare and antiquarian books holdings include editions dating back to 1800, providing generations of students with an opportunity to engage with the artistic culture of the past and explore the art of book design from the 19th and early 20th centuries.<\/p>\n

Throughout the 20th century, the library\u2019s collection was systematically developed with literature corresponding to the academic profile of the institution \u2014 fine arts, industrial design, decorative and applied arts, as well as other materials related to the educational process. As a result, the KSADA library holds a unique repository of specialised literature that supports the education and professional development of both students and academic staff.<\/p>\n
The library continues to acquire new publications in accordance with the Academy\u2019s profile and the introduction of new educational programmes and specialisations.<\/p>\n
Driven by the technological and socio-cultural transformations in modern education, the traditional stereotypes of interaction between the library and its users are evolving. In response to the rapid development of information and communication technologies, the library actively adopts digital tools and modern communication methods. The library is also responsible for uploading data into the repository of academic publications by the Academy\u2019s teaching staff.<\/p>\n
A computer-based reading room has been established within the Information and Reference Department, providing full Internet access across all workstations. The reference system includes both traditional and electronic catalogues, as well as specialised card files. The library continuously updates and expands its databases for all users. As of January 1, 2024, the electronic catalogue contains 6 493 bibliographic records.<\/p>\n

Building upon the experience of previous years, the library continues to serve its visitors while preserving the heritage of past generations. Currently, the library includes four reading rooms and a Circulation Desk.
